Well, I had a superb time yesterday!
Race 1 wasn't all that good. I had chosen the soft tires and qualified 14th on the grid. The start went very well, I avoided all problems and after 2 laps I was 7th! But then I made some mistakes and dropped down the order. I think I was in 10th place, with 3 laps to go when suddenly the red-warning indicator started to blink. I was almost out of fuel! Swore a couple of times, and requested a pit-stop. I had selected 18 laps, and since the standard calculation at Zandy was very wrong - in the positive sense - I figured that this must be enough. On top of that the tires were completely gone, it must be me, but it was terrible to drive. Guess not, pitted for fuel to make it through the last 2 laps and finished in a disappointing 14th spot, back were I started.
Since I had these tires problems, I went out on Medium tires for the next race. This make me about a second a lap slower, but the tires lasted much longer. I qualified 15th, had a reasonable start. Jake was ahead of me but I couldn't keep up - probably because of the tires. But after about 8 laps things started to turn, and I was gaining again. I was now lapping faster then the people directly in front of me. Pitted rather late, lap 21 I think. (because I ran out of fuel, tires were still ok). I exited the pit, saw nobody, joined online and suddenly I got hit. I will have to check the replay, I have no idea who hit me, or whom I hit. He must have been completely out of mirrors range... I was a bit mad, but could rejoin without much trouble. A Gulf car in front, a Gulf car behind. The first car was clearly having problems with the tires after a while, I was getting rather close when I made a mistake. The other Gulf car - Maroni - got passed but I was immediately able to put pressure on him. Sandro had a very spectacular crash exiting the chicane in L26, Porsche upside down!
Next one on the list was the other Gulf car - Martinello. I had a great chase and was able to getted passed in T1. 3 laps to go, Jake Adams was next! I was able to get close during the last lap but would never have been able to get passed. But then Martin came to lap us during the last lap. Jake wanted to let hem by in the last corner, missed a gear, and the corner. This resulted in me gaining a position in the last corner of a 57 minute race! What a thrill! (but I do feel sorry for you Jake)
Ninth place, not too bad!
